What Can I Expect at My First Session?

m_Green Line

In short, you can expect to be listened to, accepted just as you are, and to be treated with dignity and respect.

The overall goal of the first session is to help you determine if I'm the right counselor for you, and for me to determine if your particular concerns are something with which I feel I can help.

Finding the right counselor is very important. Several years ago it took visits to three different counselors before my wife and I found the one that was right for us. How did we know? It simply felt right; felt like the counselor understood us and our problems. There's no magical formula. I think in your gut you just know whether or not a particular counselor is right for you.

If at the end of our session we determine that for whatever reason we're not right for each other, I'll be glad to give you the names of several other counselors in the area to whom I would refer my friends and/or family. The important thing to me is that you get the help you need--whether with me or with someone else.
