In II Timothy 2:2, Paul said "the things which you have heard from me in the presence of many witnesses, entrust these to faithful men who will also be able to teach others also" and in Proverbs 27:17 it says, "as iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another." These verses are the basis of why we do mentoring in the 121 Student Ministry. As followers of Jesus Christ, God has called us to pass on the things we have learned and to sharpen one another in the process.
The way it works is that we match up a student who is looking for a mentor with a spiritually mature adult leader. The mentoring relationship begins as you begin meeting (usually weekly for about an hour) to spend time talking, hanging out and doing some type of Bible study together.
Really, about anyone. Mentoring is for people who are looking for more personal, one-on-one attention with an adult leader. It is for people who really want to take their relationship with Christ to the next level but are not sure how. It is also for people who want to develop in a particular area such as learning how to study the Bible, pray, use their spiritual gifts, etc.
Whether you're a student wanting to find a mentor or an adult who desires to invest in a student, we would love for you to get plugged into this ministry. There is a brief application that we would like for you to fill out so we can get to know you better and help you get matched up in a good mentoring relationship. Once you download the application (see below), please e-mail it to Diane Lee (our Student Ministry Mentoring Coordinator) at . You may also contact Diane for any mentoring questions at her e-mail or by phone at
