Overview of the Student Ministry

Our VISION

Our vision as a church is a community of transformed people living for Jesus Christ (Col. 1:28).   In the life of a teenager, this looks like a student growing in an authentic relationship with Christ and other believers while engaging in God’s mission in the world.  Therefore, our desire is that by the time of high school graduation students would:

  • Be in an authentic relationship with Christ and continue to grow through spiritual disciplines.
  • Understand the big picture of the Bible and have a biblical worldview.
  • Have a strong heart-connection with their parents.
  • Have healthy friendships with other believers.
  • Have clear moral boundaries and make wise choices.
  • Be involved in the God’s Mission both in their world and around the world.
  • Remain actively involved in the local church where they are using their spiritual gifts to serve.
Our Mission
  • To lead students to live for Jesus Christ (Phil. 1:21)
Our Strategy
  • Create atmospheres of worship (John 4:15-26)
  • Build small groups of community (Acts 2:41-47)
  • Provide opportunities to live on mission (Mt. 28:18-20)
OUR CURRICULUM
  • For Junior High students (7-8th grade) we are using Student Life Bible Study (www.studentlifebiblestudy.com) as our primary curriculum.  Within this curriculum, students will spend one year getting an overview of the life and ministry of Jesus Christ as the basis of our faith.  In the second year, students will get an overview of the Old Testament and its key characters, learning lessons that apply to our life today.
  • For High School students (9-12th grade) we are using XP3 (www.xp3students.com) as our primary curriculum.  XP3 stands for "eXperience 3" and focuses on 3 things every student should experience to have a personal, vibrant relationship with Jesus Christ: Wonder, Passion, and Discovery.  The XP3 content is taught in multiple 3-4 week series that are grounded in Scripture and relevant the world of a high school student.

On a weekly basis, we encourage students to be a part of our worship experience called ELEVATE where they experience both an atmosphere of worship and small groups of community (called LifeGroups).  LifeGroups are small groups of students divided by grade and gender that meet with an adult leader.  Elevate includes food, games, a live band and relevant bible study and is a great way to connect with other teenagers.  It takes place from 6:30-8:30 on Wednesday nights at the church.  Junior High Students (7-8th grade) meet in The Warehouse of the West End at 121 (our student ministry facility to the West of the Main Building).   High School students (9-12th grade) meet in the Theatre of the West End at 121.

We encourage students to be a part of the church wide worship experience on Sundays at 9:15 or 11:00 am to worship with their family or friends.  We also encourage students to be a part of i-Serve on Sunday mornings by serving on a ministry team such as 121 Kids, Preschool, Greeting, etc.  To learn more about I-Serve opportunities, contact .

In addition to these weekly environments, we have special events throughout the year such as weekend retreats, summer camp, camping trips, etc.  Keep up to date with these events by checking the website, reading the weekly student ministry e-mail update (e-mail to be added), or going to our online student ministry calendar.

For more information on the student ministry at 121, please contact (Minister to Students) or the church office: 817-488-1213.
