7 “If you had known Me, you would have known My Father also; from now on you know Him, and have seen Him.”

During the Advent season, we prepare for Christmas. It’s a time to reflect on and celebrate the birth of Jesus, our Lord and Savior. We also anticipate the fact that He is coming again!

We grow in our desire for His return as we seek to know Him better each day. Here, Jesus was speaking to His disciples about His Father. Jesus said, “To know me is to know My Father, the one who sent me.” Jesus reveals the Father through His words and His work. To know what God is like, look at Jesus. To see Jesus is to see the Father. They are one and the same.

As we grow in our knowledge of who Jesus is, we see in greater detail the character of God, who has poured out His grace in the coming of Christ. The Christmas season brings with it longings for many things, but the greatest desire of our hearts can only be fulfilled in Christ. Come to Jesus and be forgiven. Come to Jesus and live. Come to Jesus and know God the Father in a deeper way today.

• How does Jesus reveal the character of the Father? What aspects of God’s character do you need to reflect on during this season?

• How does this verse expand your view of God the Father? How does it clarify your understanding of Jesus?

• Pray for someone you know who needs the gift of salvation this holiday season.
