He made Him who knew no sin to be sin on our behalf, so that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.

Have you ever been blamed for something you didn’t do? What was your reaction? It’s never fun to be on the receiving end of false accusations. It’s wrong. It’s inappropriate. It’s cumbersome. It’s unfair. To be found at fault for something we had nothing to do with is not a desirable position to be in. And yet, it is one Jesus took on willingly to give us hope, abundant life, and an eternal future in glory.

In this one sentence, we see how God can reconcile grace and justice to sinners. The essence of atonement is summed up in these 24 words. We could only be made right through perfect obedience, with no sin before God. So God put all of our sin on Jesus, who never sinned, so that we could be put in right standing with God. Through our Savior, Jesus Christ, resolution with God is made possible for all who believe in Him. Are you resting in the righteousness of Christ? Take some time today to marvel at the undeserved grace you have been given in Him.
