6 Seek the Lord while He may be found; Call upon Him while He is near.
7 Let the wicked forsake his way And the unrighteous man his thoughts;
And let him return to the Lord, And He will have compassion on him,
And to our God, For He will abundantly pardon.
Can you hear the sense of urgency in the prophet’s request?
Isaiah was pleading for God’s people to abandon their sinful way of life and seek God. He’s calling them to turn from their evil way of thinking and turn to God, who is merciful and forgiving. Isaiah knew time on earth was limited. He knew we each have a small window of opportunity to make wise choices and take the next right step. He beckoned us to seek the Lord now…not in a few hours, not tomorrow, not next week, but right now.
God shows His kindness and mercy in giving opportunity for those who have rejected Him to seek Him in this life. Still, we should not assume that God will always be patient. We must not take His kindness for granted.
There is nothing more pressing than the need to seek the Lord. In Matthew 7:7, Jesus promised that those who seek Him will find Him. If you wait until your life is perfect, it will never happen. Just because the past didn’t turn out like you wanted it to doesn’t mean your future can’t be better than you ever imagined. Those who find the Lord find hope, love, and compassion. Why would anyone want to put that off another day?
- What are some reasons you might have for delaying to seek the Lord?
- What is God telling you to pursue that you have been putting off?
- Pray for continued spiritual maturity and growth in both your life and the life of others.
