37 Then He said to His disciples, “The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few.
38 Therefore beseech the Lord of the harvest to send out workers into His harvest.”
Dead trees may stand upright and take up space, but they will bear no fruit. They serve no purpose. Their contributions have ceased. They are no longer doing what they were created to do.
People who come to church each Sunday and occupy a pew but claim a faith that never impacts their lives are like these rotting trees.
The harvest refers to those that do not have a personal relationship with Jesus. There are millions of people who have never heard the gospel. The harvest of souls to be gathered is plentiful, ripe for the plucking. We all have the responsibility to plead with the lost. This extends beyond just attending church on Sundays…the need is too great for a lack of commitment on our part.
God created each of us with a specific purpose to fulfill. Jesus said the workers are few because many aren’t willing to be obedient to God’s call.
Ask the Lord of the Harvest to send more workers out into the field and then ask yourself this question, “Am I ready to work?”
- How obedient are you to Jesus’ call for workers in the harvest fields of the gospel? How can you seek further obedience?
- How often do you pray for unbelievers to come to know Jesus? How can you make time for this regularly?
- Pray for the evidence of God’s work in your life to be undeniable. Pray for abundant fruit of the Spirit to be reproduced in your life. Ask God to give you a pursuit of the lost that is honorable and glorifying to Him.
