4 But when the fullness of the time came, God sent forth His Son, born of a woman, born under the Law,
5 so that He might redeem those who were under the Law, that we might receive the adoption as sons.

We should give attention to the phrase, “the fullness of time” in verse 4. This term represents that which was predetermined in the counsel of God, as the proper moment for the miraculous birth and appearance of Jesus on earth. Each and every one of a great number of details that had to take place was now in place. Let this remind you of the providential and purposeful work of God in your life.

When the time was “full,” when God in His infinite wisdom and sovereignty knew that all things were perfectly ready, the most significant event of all time took place—Jesus was born! The apostle pointed us to the truth that socially, politically, economically, and culturally, history is fully orchestrated by the one true God.

Jesus’ arrival was a turning point in history. Jesus was the child for whom all of time had waited. Through the eyes of faith, we can acknowledge God’s providential ordering of events so that the time would be ripe for His Son to achieve salvation for His people and have His gospel declared worldwide. Jesus fulfilled the righteous requirement of the Law on our behalf, that we might share with Him the rights and privileges as children of God.

• How can you purposely remember that God is in control of all things in moments of waiting or hardship?

• Why is it right to say that the birth of Jesus was the most important event in history?

• Thank God that He is the One who knew the fullness of time. Pray for deeper trust in Him as you remember that Jesus came into the world at just the right moment. Pray for greater belief that God will continue to act at just the right time for His purposes.
