4 I sought the Lord, and He answered me, And delivered me from all my fears.
They looked to Him and were radiant, And their faces will never be ashamed.
This poor man cried, and the Lord heard him and saved him out of all his troubles.
The angel of the Lord encamps around those who fear Him, and rescues them.
O taste and see that the Lord is good; How blessed is the man who takes refuge in Him!

This beautiful psalm brings to mind the beloved hymn: “Turn your eyes upon Jesus. Look full in His wonderful face. And the things of the earth will grow strangely dim in the light of His glory and grace.” What wonderful words of comfort for us!

When we turn to God, we will find everything we need. In our troubles, He is good. In our uncertainties, He is steady. Through our follies, He is fixed. Deuteronomy 31:8 reminds us that He goes before us. He will never leave us or forsake us. What have we to fear knowing this? His promises remain true to this day. Are you standing on them?

If not, what is preventing you from taking refuge in Him? Remember His goodness and be strengthened by His truths.

  • What fears have gripped you recently?
  • How can you taste and see that the Lord is good, even in fearful or difficult moments?
  • Pray that the steadiness of God will bring peace to your soul. Wherever you are, seek Him right now. Tell Him your fears and let Him deliver you from them. Take a few moments to adore the Lord and His goodness.
