Holding fast the faithful word which is in accordance with the teaching, so that he will be able both to exhort in sound doctrine and to refute those who contradict.

The apostle Paul wrote this letter to Titus in an effort to spur him on in his mission.

He wanted Titus to grow deeper in the knowledge and truth of our Lord. The more pure and precise the message, the more powerful it can be.

Paul reminded Titus of many truths to help incite this cause, such as: God does not lie; His promises are true and clear; His message can be trusted; and He is real and always right. Those who try to oppose this message of truth are ultimately proved wrong.

God used Paul and Titus to help His chosen people better understand the truth that leads to godly living. Chapter one of Titus emphasized the importance of knowing this truth and being able to refute error. Paul wanted everyone to believe more and more in Christ. God’s Word teaches us and helps us build one another up. We must hold firmly to the true teaching of Scripture.

Are you holding fast to the faithful Word?

• What do you need to do daily to build up the way in which you hold to the Word of truth?
• How do the truths about God mentioned above encourage you in your faith?
• Pray for grace, wisdom, and discernment to know how to handle altercations, disagreements, and conflict in a godly manner.
