For yet in a very little while, He who is coming will come, and will not delay. But my righteous one shall live by faith; and if he shrinks back, my soul has no pleasure in him.
Simply put, faith is acknowledging the reality of God. Living in faith is firmly and loyally trusting who God is and what He has promised to do.
Setbacks come through many avenues like fear, doubt, temptations, and weaknesses. Life is filled with highs, lows, ups, and downs. Through it all, the righteous will live by faith. The characteristics of a righteous person are the opposite of pride and unbelief, which cause people to shrink back from God. The righteous are humble, meek, sincere, submissive to God’s will, and wanting to do His will.
Willful sin brings a terrifying judgment. But joyful endurance without shrinking back brings the pleasure of God. Genuine faith will carry people through all difficulties, hazards, and troubles to the assured end of eternal blessedness. The reality of our lives is none of us is perfectly faithful before God. But we can rejoice that Jesus has been faithful where we have failed, and in Him we receive the power to endure to the end.
