24 Now to Him who is able to keep you from stumbling, and to make you stand in the presence of His glory blameless with great joy,
25 to the only God our Savior, through Jesus Christ our Lord, be glory, majesty, dominion and authority, before all time and now and forever. Amen.
We have spent the beginning of this week discussing God’s greatness, as evidenced through His work in creation and through His creation itself. Jude 1 points us to the fullness of God’s greatness that has been displayed through the person and work of Jesus Christ.
It is important to recognize the times mentioned by Jude in these verses. God is worthy of all glory, majesty, dominion, and authority in the past, present, and future. This is a statement of fact about the nature of God. While we are called to ascribe praise and glory to God, we do not give these characteristics to God. He has had them from before time and will have them forevermore.
The fullest display of God’s greatness has been made known through the work of the gospel. In this act, God displayed His holiness, justice, grace, mercy, power, and love in a way that goes beyond any measure that the world has ever known.
It is by this power and greatness that He is able to keep us from stumbling and make us stand in His presence, blameless and with great joy. When our eyes are opened to understand this truth, why would we continue to seek life and joy anywhere else? He is the only One who is able and worthy of our full devotion. A right understanding of God’s greatness, displayed in the gospel, will impact all areas of our lives.
• How have you experienced great joy in God’s greatness displayed in the gospel?
• Who do you need to share the gospel with? How does this should that you believe that God’s greatness surpasses any other?
• Pray for a fuller understanding of and love for the gospel.
