While they were there, the days were completed for her to give birth.

This month, let’s immerse ourselves in the story of Jesus’ birth. Place yourself right in the middle of the events leading up to and surrounding that miraculous night. Take a journey back thousands of years ago.

Joseph and Mary were traveling from Nazareth to Bethlehem in order to be counted for a census decreed by Caesar Augustus. Can you picture the ordinary scene of Mary riding on a donkey, with Joseph leading in front, rope in hand? Mary was great with child during this journey. And we know it was no ordinary child she was carrying, but the Savior of the world.

This verse tells us that while they were in Bethlehem, the time had come for Mary to have her child. Jesus was going to be born, thus fulfilling the first of many prophecies about when and where the long awaited king would come. What an exciting moment! Everything in the Old Testament had been leading up to this instant. Over the coming days, we’ll see how the rest of the story unfolds. As we unpack this account, we’ll see how each prophecy made came to fruition in Jesus Christ. Truly, this was a special time. Let’s treasure this account together.
