1 The heavens are telling of the glory of God;
And their expanse is declaring the work of His hands.
2 Day to day pours forth speech,
And night to night reveals knowledge.
3 There is no speech, nor are there words;
Their voice is not heard.
4 Their line has gone out through all the earth,
And their utterances to the end of the world.
In them He has placed a tent for the sun,
5 Which is as a bridegroom coming out of his chamber;
It rejoices as a strong man to run his course.
6 Its rising is from one end of the heavens,
And its circuit to the other end of them;
And there is nothing hidden from its heat
We live in the most technologically advanced age that has ever existed. The world is connected in a way that makes long distances seem as nothing and the realities of modern technology are far beyond what could have been dreamt of just a few decades ago. Yet, despite the vastness available on our phones and at our fingertips, people are still drawn to the beauty that is found in that which we could not create: nature.
There is something about the creation of God that stirs our souls in a way that human invention never could. We recognize our smallness in comparison to the Grand Canyon, or a clear night sky filled with stars. Not even the best photos can do justice to these created things. They must be seen in person to experience them fully. Every year, droves of people trek to the ocean to sit beside its bigness. We may not be able to clearly define why we are drawn to these things, but it is certain that their beauty is both amazing and enticing.
Speaking of the glory of God’s creation, Paul wrote in Romans 1 that no one has an excuse for not seeking the Lord as His nature is revealed through His creation. As we observe God’s creation, we should be purposeful to give Him praise. We are not only to observe and recognize the beauty of creation; we also are to glorify the One to Whom all creation points.
• How have you been led to worship by observing the created things of God?
• How does the greatness of creation point us toward submission to the goodness and glory of God?
• Pray and thank God that His glory has been revealed in creation. Pray for ways you can point others to Him in light of His creation.
