…so that He might redeem those who were under the Law, that we might receive the adoption as sons. Because you are sons, God has sent forth the Spirit of His Son into our hearts, crying, “Abba! Father!” Therefore you are no longer a slave, but a son; and if a son, then an heir through God.
Bethel Music released a beautiful worship song in 2015 titled “No Longer Slaves.” It coincides with these verses. This powerful line is repeated throughout the lyrics: “I’m no longer a slave to fear. I am a child of God.” The song won the “Worship Song of the Year” award in 2016 at the GMA Dove Awards. It has been viewed over 109 million times on YouTube.
This song gives words to the wonderful reality that is true for all of God’s people. We no longer have to live as those in bondage to fear because we have been adopted into the family of God. Apart from the work of Christ, we had every reason to live in fear as those who would rightly face the wrath of God due to our rejection of Him. Yet, Christ has come that we might be redeemed through His life, death, and resurrection, and now we have been adopted into the family of God. Truly, this is worthy of reflecting on and celebrating every day.
