10 So then, while we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, and especially to those who are of the household of the faith.
What is a significant opportunity you have been able to take advantage of in your life? Maybe you have had the opportunity to take the trip of a lifetime or go backstage at a concert of your favorite musician or band. Maybe you have had the opportunity to take your dream job, something you are experiencing the benefit of on a continual basis. When we speak of opportunities, we typically mean an instance that we do not have direct control over, but the circumstances line up for us to move forward in a specific way.
We should think of spiritual opportunities in a similar way while simultaneously recognizing that God is in control of all things. The opportunities we receive to do good for Him have been specifically arranged that His purposes will be accomplished. Ephesians 2:10 says that God has specific works that He has prepared in advance for all who are in Christ.
Since this is true, we should consider opportunities to do good for others in our community not as mere happenstance, but as a divinely arranged moment in our lives. God has provided the specific opportunities in our lives that we might show others what He is like. In these moments, we are able to show others the love and grace that has been extended to us through Christ.
This week, take time to slow down and consider the opportunities that God has put in your life. Who or what might you be missing that God has placed before you for His purposes? As we act in these moments, we can be confident, knowing God has given them to us and that He is with us there.
• Looking back at your life, what are some divinely given opportunities you can recognize?
• How has God worked in these moments that would have been impossible on your own?
• Pray that God would give you the eyes to see the opportunities He places before you each day for His glory.
