Casting all your anxiety on Him, because He cares for you.

We live in a world that glorifies independence at all cost. We are told we should not depend on anyone except ourselves to make it in the world. From our careers to relationships to emotional health, we need to be the heroes of our own stories. The only problem is, that burden is way too heavy for us to carry for a lifetime. We certainly all try at times to be everything we need, but we will inevitably fall short. It is no surprise that anxiety and depression permeate our lives, with it beginning in early childhood. The pressure we feel to do more and climb the ladder can break us if we try to shoulder everything on our own. Just the realities of living in a broken world weigh us down quickly.

It isn’t supposed to be this way. We aren’t meant to carry it all. Peter reminds us that we serve a God who cares for us. He doesn’t demand our greatest achievements. He doesn’t tell us to grin and bear it. He doesn’t tell us to try harder, do better, get stronger. In fact, because He cares for us, He wants us to take all of that and throw it at His feet. Everything that worries us, everything that burdens us, everything that scares us, and everything in between. He wants all of it. He wants to carry it because we weren’t meant to bear the weight. Our burdens are not a burden to God. He delights in us; therefore, He delights in caring for our every need.

● What is causing you anxiety right now? What are you worried about? What are you trying to handle that feels too heavy to carry?

● How can you cast those feelings and circumstances at the feet of Jesus?

● Thank God for caring for you fully. Thank Him for bearing the burden of all of your anxieties and worries. Take some time to cast those at His feet. List them out and declare the truth of Scripture over them.
